Business Development Co-op 26 weeks Chosen 1 of 85+ applicants Northeastern University

For six months you weren’t the co-op. You were me. The voice every family heard back from. The calls that filled the calendar. And by the end, the person building the product. Here is what that added up to.

The inbox

You lived in my inbox, and you answered as me.

From your first week, everything inbound ran through you. Parents, athletes, coaches. Nearly every reply a ShowNxt family got was written by you, under my name. The welcomes. The hard ones. The patient third follow-up that finally landed.

0+
emails sent as “Lucas,” across 1,250+ family conversations you carried from first hello to signed up
The outreach, the follow-ups, and the patient replies. And this is a floor, not a ceiling: the count ran past the limit of our tooling with conversations still left to tally. The real number is higher.
Before the product sold itself

Then you got on the phones.

Someone had to build the pipeline by hand before ShowNxt could sell itself. That was you. Dialing coaches, sorting every new athlete, running outreach at 109 calls a day.

0+
Cold calls logged
College coaches dialed in the winter sprint. You ramped all the way to the 109 a day team goal.
0
Athlete profiles sorted
Every new signup categorized and matched to opportunities. Goal was 480. You called it done.
0+
Coaches messaged on LinkedIn
Direct outreach to college programs, tracked coach by coach in a database you built.
0
Tracking systems built
Cold call database, onboarding, club partnerships, lead conversations, LinkedIn, and response notes.
0+
Coach and athlete conversations facilitated
Warm introductions that turned into matches, and ShowNxt’s first revenue.
0+
Coaches and clubs onboarded
From UConn and UChicago to USG and Tennessee United. Walked onto the platform by you.
The arc

Six months, in order.

The part that matters most is not any single number. It is the trajectory. You started answering email. You ended writing the code.

January
Became the inbox
Took over inbound as “Lucas.” Sorted 470+ athletes. Built the cold calling database of every Massachusetts Division III program.
February
Ran the outreach engine
Cold calls passed 1,200 logged. 280+ LinkedIn messages to coaches. First demos booked, first feedback calls landed.
March to April
Turned outreach into systems
Built the onboarding, club partnership, and lead conversation trackers. Then made your first commits to the codebase.
May to June
Shipped the product
Owned the Feed. Taught yourself mobile development with Claude Code and built the ShowNxt iOS app, from an empty project into App Store review.
July 1, last week
Launched ShowNxt Pro
Your final feature. A whole new kind of user, and the tool that lets them email pro USL coaches. Merged the day before your last.
The turning point
Halfway through, our founding team of eight split. That left the two of us.

Most people would have been buried by that. You did the opposite. You took problems off my plate instead of waiting for direction, taught yourself skills you had never touched, and kept ShowNxt moving. That is when the co-op became something else.

In your words, as me

The tone families remember is yours.

Straight from the sent folder. Every one of these went out under my name. Every one was you.

Thanks for the kind words, and no worries at all! We’re adding more West Coast schools every week, and in the meantime she can also use our Email Coaches feature.

To a parent worried about school coverage. Warm, never defensive.

My apologies for that oversight. I’ve removed Eva from our outreach.

To a frustrated parent. You owned it in two lines and kept the relationship.

Glad to hear Marin’s profile is all set up! Since she’s a 2029 there aren’t too many opportunities just yet, but coaches are constantly adding.

To a dad mid-onboarding. Honest and still encouraging.

Sounds good. Let me know if you or Alexa have any questions when you get a chance to check out ShowNxt. Happy to help however we can!

The follow-through that got a profile live. You closed the loop.
What you built

You didn’t just support the product. You built it.

In late March you moved into the codebase and stayed there. You taught yourself mobile development with Claude Code and shipped real infrastructure, not tweaks. This is what you actually put into ShowNxt.

The app itself

The ShowNxt iOS app

Built our native iOS app from an empty project all the way to TestFlight and into App Store review. Real users, on real phones, because you built the whole shell.

Notifications

iOS push, done properly

Wired push straight through Apple’s APNs and cut OneSignal out entirely. New listings, feed activity, messages, and the weekly digest now reach athletes the moment they happen.

Native media

Images and video that work on device

Fixed the things that only break on a real phone: listing photos, campus hero images, and feed video thumbnails, all routed correctly through the native layer.

Core surface

The Feed

Owned the living story feed end to end, on both the coach and athlete side, from the API routes down to the components.

New product line

ShowNxt Pro

Shipped a brand new user persona and the Email USL Coaches tool that comes with it. Your last feature, merged the day before your final day.

The plumbing

Everything underneath

Push token storage and database migrations, Google Sign-in, onboarding fixes, pull to refresh, and the athlete profile editor. The unglamorous parts that hold it all up.

This is the point, not the line count. For the record it took 175 commits and 23 merged pull requests to get here. But the number that matters is one: the app now in the App Store, with your work inside it.
The final evaluation

Straight fives. Every category.

Your official Northeastern co-op evaluation, filed July 1. Nothing below the top of the scale.

“Nicole’s growth over the course of her co-op was honestly one of the most impressive I’ve seen. Watching her go from making cold calls to independently building and submitting our mobile app to the App Store was one of the most rewarding parts of this experience.”

“She has a rare ability to learn incredibly fast and isn’t afraid to tackle problems well outside her comfort zone. Those qualities are difficult to teach and are exactly what make exceptional startup operators.”

From your final co-op evaluation.
Would hire post-graduation?  Yes.
Thank you, Nicole

You came on to help with outreach. You are leaving having answered for me thousands of times, made more than a thousand calls, built the systems we still run on, and shipped a product and an app with your own hands.

Almost none of it had your name on it. It had mine. So here it is with the right name on it. Every number on this page is you.

Thank you for six months of the hard, unglamorous, essential work. ShowNxt looks the way it does because you were here.

Thank you,
Lucas
